Ex-prison guard indicted in sex case

A former state prison guard is facing a 10-year prison term if convicted of a second-degree sexual assault charge involving a male inmate at Oahu Community Correctional Center.

An Oahu grand jury indicted Ryan Malasig yesterday, and Circuit Judge Richard Perkins issued a $100,000 bench warrant for his arrest.

According to the indictment, the incident took place on Aug. 23, 2009.

Leilani T. Young, deputy city prosecutor, said Malasig forced the inmate to perform oral sex. The inmate saved his shirt with DNA from the encounter and presented it to police when he reported the assault, Young said.

Young said the DNA from the shirt matched Malasig’s.
