Big Island police warn of telephone scam
Big Island police are warning the public about a recent telephone scam designed to steal credit or debit card numbers.
The caller leaves a voice mail message claiming that that the recipient’s Bank of Hawaii or First Hawaiian Bank credit card or debit cart has been deactivated, police said.
The message asks the intended victim to call a telephone number, police said. When the person calls that number, a recording asks him or her to enter a credit card or debit card account number.
Police remind the public not to give out financial information to suspicious callers.
