Volleyball POW Balanay

Hawaii Pacific senior middle Kelly Balanay picked up her first weekly honor of the season after helping the Sea Warriors to a 3-0 record. She hit .510 with 29 kills, two solo blocks and 10 block assists in two victories over Dominican and one over Notre Dame de Namur.

Honor Roll

Losaline Faka’osi, BYUH: The junior hitter had 48 kills, an ace, five block assists and averaged 5.20 digs per game as the Seasiders went 3-1.

Hillary Hurley, UHH: The junior middle led the conference with 38.5 points (35 kills, a solo block and five block assists) to help the Vulcans go 3-0.

Kylee Pedro, CU: The sophomore middle out of Mid-Pacific had 31 kills, four aces, four block solos and 10 blocks assists as the Silverswords went 2-1.

Kyra Pelayo, HPU: The junior libero had eight aces and 68 digs during a 3-0 week for the Sea Warriors.

Leilani Ramsey, UHH: The senior hitter had 29 kills, three aces and eight block assists as the Vulcans went 3-0.

Katie Swenson, UHH: The senior setter led the conference with 104 assists in three sweeps for the Vulcans.

HPU basketball team honored

The Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team, the first in school history to earn an NCAA Division II tournament berth, will be honored during Thursday’s PacWest volleyball match at St. Andrew’s Priory gym.

Coach Jeff Harada’s team won its first conference title and he was named PacWest coach of the year. The awards presentation will be held between Sets 2 and 3 of the HPU-Academy of Art volleyball match that begins at 7 p.m.

KWHE-TV (Ch. 11) will broadcast the match. It will also be available online at b2tv.com

Conference basketball preview day tomorrow

The PacWest basketball preview show will be streamed live online on Red Zone Media tomorrow with the men’s preview starting at 10 a.m. and the women’s at 11 a.m.

The preseason all-conference teams and polls will be announced and coaches will give short previews of their respective teams.

Weekly honor to HPU’s Bukoski

Hawaii Pacific junior forward Chance Bukoski earned conference honors after leading the Sea Warriors to two wins last week. The Kapaa High graduate had two goals and two assists in victories over Chaminade and Hawaii-Hilo in overtime.

Viktor Bezhani, BYUH: The senior midfielder scored twice in a 4-2 win at Chaminade.

Aaron Drewery, BYU-Hawaii: The junior defender had two goals as the Seasiders went 1-1.

Drew Geis, UHH: The senior midfielder out of Kapolei High had two assists in a 4-1 win over BYUH and scored a goal that forced overtime against HPU.

Richard Guffens, HPU: The junior forward had three goals last week in two victories.

Jordan Kitabayashi, CU: The freshman defender out of Waimea High had a goal and assist in the Silverswords’ 4-2 loss to BYUH.

Kimo Komomua, HPU: The sophomore midfielder out of Kamehameha had two goals and an assist against Chaminade.

Mike Moloney, HPU: The senior defender had two goals against Chaminade.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

BYUH’s Micheletti cited

Brigham Young-Hawaii freshman defender Kim Micheletti was named player of the week after a six-point performance in two wins that clinched the PacWest championship for the Seasiders and a berth in the NCAA Division II tournament. She had two goals and an assist in a 3-0 win over Hawaii-Hilo and a goal in the 2-0 victory over Chaminade.

The Seasiders will find out next Monday if they have kept their No. 1 ranking in the region and if they will host a regional.

Amber Fuller, HPU: The sophomore midfielder out of Kamehameha scored the winning goal in a 3-2 victory at UH-Hilo.

Yasmina Taketa, HPU: The sophomore midfielder out of Kalani High scored a goal in each of the victories over UH-Hilo and Chaminade.

Whitney Williams, CU: The junior defender out of St. Anthony scored both of the Silverswords’ goals in two losses.

Men’s Honor Roll

Zack Sainz, Academy of Art: The Kamehameha graduate and AAU freshman was fourth overall at the Dominican Invitational, finishing the 5K course in 19:46.98.
