Forum covers WWII experiences

The University of Hawaii is set to hold a symposium on war and peace during the 1940s.

"Words of War, Lessons of Peace: A Multigenerational Symposium for Peacemaking" will feature the experiences and recollections of civilians affected by World War II.

Among those scheduled to speak are Izumi Hirano, who survived the Hiroshima atomic bomb, and Helene Minehira, whose family was evicted from their home near Pearl Harbor solely on the basis of ethnicity.

The event is set for 1 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Manoa campus’ Architecture Auditorium.

Among its co-sponsors are the UH-Manoa law school, the Center for Oral History and the Spark M. Matsunaga Institute for Peace & Conflict Resolution.
