Rainbow Wahine hold off Oregon State

The Hawaii women’s basketball held off an Oregon State rally in the final minutes to secure a 54-49 win in the final game of the Jack in the Box Rainbow Wahine Classic today at the Stan Sheriff Center.
UH forward Breanna Arbuckle led the Rainbow Wahine (2-1) with 13 points and guard Megan Tinnin added 12. Forward Shawna-Lei Kuehu finished with seven points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
Tinnin, who made five 3-pointers in UH’s loss to Eastern Michigan on Saturday, hit three more in the first half today and the Wahine took a 30-19 lead into halftime.
UH saw a 15-point lead early in the second half shrink to four with 3:52 left on El Sara Greer’s short jumper.
The Beavers closed to 52-49 on Earlysha Marchbanks’ layup with 59 seconds left.
On UH’s next possession, Arbuckle drew a foul as the shot clock was about to expire and made two free throws to push the lead back to five with 29 seconds left.
Sage Indendi made three 3-pointers and led Oregon State with 11 points.
Three teams finished the tournament at 2-1 and Oregon State was awarded the title for the fewest points allowed.
In the early game, Kalani graduate Violet Alama scored a career-high 32 points in Cal State Northridge’s 79-68 loss to Eastern Michigan.
