City identifies drowning victim

A man who drowned off Diamond Head last week was identified Saturday by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office as 52-year-old Jinichi Tokuda.

Tokuda’s hometown is not yet known, said the medical office, which requested the public’s help yesterday to identify Tokuda.

Bystanders pulled him from the water at the surf spot Lighthouse off Beach Road at about 3:40 p.m. Thursday. He died less than 20 minutes later.

He might have been snorkeling, a city official said.
