Vercruyssen wins Bronze at Pan Am

Hawaii’s Nani Vercruyssen earned a bronze medal in trampoline gymnastics at last weekend’s Pan American Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico, one of two medals won by Team USA.

Vercruyssen, a Kapiolani Community College freshman, finished behind Canadians Karen Cockburn, the reigning world champion, and Rosannagh McClennan, the silver medalist at the world championships.

The U.S. women finished second behind Canada and will send two athletes to the 2011 Pan American Games next October, part of the process to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Those gymnasts will be announced later.

Trosky baseball camp at Hans

Coaches from 15 colleges — including USC, Cal and Washington — will be working with and evaluating prospective players at the Hawaiian Holiday High School Baseball Showcase Camp, Sunday through Tuesday, at Hans L’Orange Field.

The camp is put on by Trosky Baseball, which is run by former Hawaii Pacific player Nathan Trotsky. Registration is $395 and due online by tomorrow (Troskybaseball.com). There is no on-site registration Sunday.

Sunday’s agenda includes a home run derby and lecture on college recruiting. Monday and Tuesday includes competition, skills evaluation and meeting with college coaches for both players and parents.

"We bring coaches from all college levels, DI, II, III, NAIA," said Trosky, who was an NAIA All-America honoree while at HPU and now scouts for the Milwaukee Brewers. "We want to show the diversity of opportunities out there as well as give the kids a lot of exposure to coaches and scouts."
