Cruise takes in New Year’s sparkle

The Star of Honolulu will see in the new year with a cruise on New Year’s Eve departing at 10:45 p.m. Friday from Aloha Tower Marketplace, Pier 8 and returning at 12:45 a.m.

The cruise will provide views of the fireworks along the Waikiki coastline and offers champagne, party favors, dinner, live entertainment and dancing. Different cruise packages are available.

The cost is $158 per person and up, and $127.98 for kamaaina and military.

Hotel Lanai tees off for the ladies

LANAI CITY » Hotel Lanai is offering "Girlfriends’ Golf Getaway" for the second year with Insight Golf Schools, a personalized golf school for women that offers "real on-course instruction," according to a statement.

Golf instruction will be provided by Beverly Fergusson and Sheri Hayes, two of the LPGA’s top teachers. Instruction will include:

» Skills and techniques.
» Course management.
» Physical conditioning.
» Mental/emotional skills.
» Shot-making skills.

The school dates are Feb. 18-21 and 24-27.

The package includes:

» Three nights at the Hotel Lanai.
» Three days of instruction with a 4-1 student-to-teacher ratio.
» Opening dinner in the hotel’s Lanai City Grille.
» Daily continental breakfast.
» An instructional round on the Challenge at Manele and the Experience at Koele.
