Gun brandished in morning robbery
A man used a silver semiautomatic pistol to rob a cashier at a downtown business yesterday morning, and a witness heard a shot later, police said.
After receiving money from the cashier, the man ran away around 5:20 a.m., police said.
A witness heard the sound of a gunshot and a saw man fleeing the area, police said.
Suspect captured riding stolen bike
A 20-year-old man who tried to rob a man at a Kalihi bus stop Saturday night was arrested riding a stolen bicycle, police said.
A 21-year-old man refused to give up his property at the bus stop at 9:45 p.m., police said.

He was then assaulted by the 20-year-old man, said police.
The suspect fled but was stopped a short distance away, riding a bicycle that had been reported stolen from a 57-year-old woman at a nearby store, police said.
The man resisted arrest but was subdued by officers, police said.
He was being held for investigation of second-degree robbery, third-degree theft, detaining stolen property and harassment.
Makiki pair held after van break-in
Honolulu police arrested a 24-year-old Makiki man and 43-year-old Makiki woman for allegedly breaking into a van belonging to a charitable organization on Christmas Eve.
Police said a witness saw the suspects in a van belonging to the unidentified charity and confronted the couple at about 4 p.m. Friday.
Police said the van’s door locks had been damaged.
The man and woman attempted to flee and were arrested at Makiki District Park, police said.

Crew finds woman’s body in blaze ruins
Kauai firefighters discovered the body of an elderly woman after extinguishing a house fire in Koloa early yesterday morning, county officials said.
The woman’s identity was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The fire at a single-family home at 3748 Aloha Place was reported at 2:45 a.m.
Firefighters from the Koloa, Kalaheo and Lihue stations had the fire under control at 3:10 a.m., county officials said. The fire caused "significant damage" to the house, officials said.
