Honolulu Fire Department and Ocean Safety personnel brought to shore 21 people yesterday from a Hawaii Kai-based charter dive boat that had run out of fuel and anchored a mile off Maunalua Bay.

The five-member crew of the BOB’s Hawaii Adventure boat called the Fire Department at 12:22 p.m. for help after many of the 20 passengers aboard the 40-foot vessel had become nauseated, fire Capt. Terry Seelig said.

The Fire Department, using a rescue watercraft and a 24-foot rescue boat, assisted by Ocean Safety Division personnel using its rescue watercraft, brought all 20 passengers and a crew member to shore by 1:45 p.m.

Emergency Medical Services personnel evaluated the passengers and found no one was seriously ill, Seelig said.

The Fire Department brought diesel fuel to the boat and assisted in bringing it back to the Hawaii Kai Marina.
