Hawaiian Telcom reported some customers are still experiencing problems associated with heavy rains since Dec. 19.

The company has received a total of 1,800 current trouble calls, including multiple calls from the same account for problems ranging from static to lack of service, but not necessarily rain-related. (Hawaiian Tel has 450,000 customers.)

“Overall our network and the vast majority of our cables are operating normally despite ground conditions that are still wet,” said Hawaiian Telcom spokeswoman Ann Nishida.

The rains damaged its facilities and equipment, Nishida said.

Company officials apologize for the inconvenience and has crews working extended hours and is using neighbor island work crews to resolve the higher volume of calls.
