Colt Brennan’s girlfriend is sued in connection with Big Island crash

The girlfriend of former University of Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan has been sued by the attorney for a Big Island doctor following a head-on collision on Nov. 19 that left the doctor with life-threatening injuries.

The lawsuit, filed in Big Island Circuit Court last week, alleges that Brennan’s girlfriend, Shakti Stream, drove her Toyota SUV “in a careless and negligent manner” that caused her to cross Queen Kaahumanu Highway’s center line near Makalawena Beach in North Kona and hit Dr. Theresa Wang’s 1996 Saab sedan head-on.

Both Brennan and Stream were injured in the crash but were treated and released from different hospitals.

Wang underwent at least half-a-dozen surgeries for injuries that included three spinal fractures, an injury to a blood vessel to her brain that caused paralysis, swelling of the brain and a coma, four or five broken ribs, a collapsed lung and broken bones in both arms and legs, Queen’s medical director of trauma services said last month.

On Wednesday, Wang was transferred from the Queen’s Medical Center to Craig Hospital in Denver, said her Honolulu attorney, Ian Mattoch.

She is being cared for by the director of Craig’s brain injury rehabilitation unit, Mattoch said.
