GLENDALE, Ariz. — Glendale police say eight people have been arrested for selling fake tickets to Monday’s BCS Championship game between Auburn and Oregon.
Police say undercover detectives had tracking the suspect’s movements since they arrived in the Phoenix metropolitan area three days ago.
In addition to the arrests, detectives served two search warrants at a hotel where the suspects were staying in Phoenix and seized more than 200 fake tickets to the game.
Real tickets for the game carry a face value of $300 and $325, but scalpers and online sites reportedly are selling tickets for as much as $5,000 apiece for premium seats to the showdown of two undefeated teams.
The eight suspects were booked on felony charges related to the possession and sales of the fraudulent tickets. Police say the eight were all from the East Coast but their hometowns were not immediately released.
