A North Shore land plan by Kamehameha Schools has won a national award from the American Planning Association.
The plan, which covers 26,000 acres of agricultural, conservation, residential and commercial property owned by the private trust, was selected to receive one of 11 awards recognizing excellence in planning — an award for innovation in sustaining places.
It was the first time since 1997 that a Hawaii organization has won an APA national award, the trust said.
Elements of the North Shore plan include restoring the Loko Ea fishpond, agriculture water system improvements, alternative energy development, Haleiwa Town improvements and residential development.
Kamehameha Schools said most pieces of the plan are in design, permitting or construction phases.
