"MIND" OPENS AT HTY Honolulu Theatre for Youth Artistic Director Eric Johnson, left, and "Theory of Mind" leads Hermen Tesoro Jr. and Nina Buck, seated, welcomed "Hawaii Five-0" star Daniel Dae Kim, second from left, and his wife, Mia, to the opening night party Jan. 7 at Tenney Theatre. Johnson co-directed the play with Henry Ian Cusick, right, (Kim's "Lost" co-star). Jason Quinn and Hope Villanueva also enjoyed the party.

5. "CATS" SWINGS STEP UP "Cats" cast members Allison Little (Rumpleteazer), Larry Lozier Jr. (Macavity), Erica Leigh Hansen (Jennyanydots), Daniel Dawson (Alonzo) and Will Porter (Mungojerrie) welcomed Daren Kimura backstage Dec. 28 at the Blaisdell Concert Hall. The night was a dream come true for "swings" Little, Lozier and Dawson, who got to perform in place of snowbound cast members who couldn't get to Hawaii in time for opening night.

4. RECITAL IN CHINATOWN Pianist Yoko Matsui-Ball, center, and her husband, Patrick Ball, fourth from left, celebrated their wedding with a midday recital Jan. 5 at the Dragon Upstairs. Matsui-Ball was joined by longtime pals Reiko Formella (violin) and Yukiko Okukawa Humber for a beautiful program of classical music and Japanese melodies. Dragon owner Hank Taufaasau was the bartender.

3. "PEACE, LOVE, JAKE!" Jake Shimabukuro, center, relaxed backstage with band members Ignace "Iggy" Jang, left, and Michael Grande following the CD release concert for his new album, "Peace, Love, Ukulele," Jan. 3 at DFS Galleria in Waikiki. Shimabukuro closed the show with "While My Guitar Gently Weeps."

2. FULL HOUSE AT TAG Playwrights Jon Brekke, left, and Eric Nemoto went outside to meet the audience after their message play, "Merry Christmas, Roberta," played to a sold-out house Dec. 30 at the Actors Group Theatre in Iwilei.
