Kuhio Park Terrace stabbing reported

Police were investigating an assault that left three people injured last night at Kuhio Park Terrace.

An Emergency Medical Services spokesman said two teenage boys, about 14 and 17, and one man in his early 20s had cuts that could have come from broken glass or a knife. The boys were stable, and the man was in serious but stable condition.

Police said the fight began on about the 15th floor of the housing complex, about 7:30 p.m.

Laceration and threat follow theft

An employee at a Pupukea supermarket was cut with a broken bottle while trying to detain a 31-year-old man who had allegedly stolen merchandise, police said.

The man allegedly concealed merchandise and then walked outside the store at about 9 p.m. Saturday, when he was confronted by the employee, police said.

During the struggle, the man broke a bottle, which he allegedly used to cut the victim in the leg, police said. When the store manager tried to help, the man allegedly threatened the manager with the broken bottle, police said.

Police arrested the suspect on suspicion of first-degree robbery and first-degree terroristic threatening.

Suspect caught with neighbor’s beer

A man who allegedly walked into his Ewa Beach neighbor’s kitchen and took six bottles of beer was arrested yesterday morning for investigation of first-degree burglary.

The 31-year-old man was arrested in his home two doors away, police said. The man allegedly entered the home of his 40-year-old neighbor at 4 a.m. yesterday and helped himself to the beer without permission, police said.

Parking attendant robbed at gunpoint

Police were looking for two men who robbed a parking attendant Saturday in Kapolei.

The robbers, described as a man in his 40s and another in his 20s, drove up to the attendant at a retail business at about 1:05 p.m., police said. The driver got out and threatened the 23-year-old attendant with a handgun. He took some cash and drove off.

Blaze looks like arson, chief reports

KIHEI » Authorities say a fire that scorched two classrooms at the old Kihei School late Friday may have been deliberately set.

Acting Battalion Chief Allen Duarte told the Maui News that investigators suspect arson because of graffiti on the walls and evidence the school was broken into.

The fire scorched about 2,400 square feet of what was used as the fourth- and fifth-grade classrooms when the campus was in operation.

Damage to the building was estimated to be $100,000 for the structure and $50,000 for its contents.

Firefighters responding from Kihei, Wailea and Kahului took about three hours to put out the fire. 

Big Island force sets Kau meeting

The Hawaii County Police Department will hold a community meeting from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Pahala Community Center in Kau.

The public will get a chance to meet the Police Department’s command staff and discuss concerns with the police chief and commanders who oversee police operations in the Kau District.

The district community meetings are rotated monthly throughout the eight police districts on the Big Island.

To aid police commanders in focusing on specific concerns, police request that participation be limited to persons who live or work in the Kau District.
