Health bar owner also had ‘Lost’ dog

Virginio "Marcus" Marcos, owner of Diamond Head Cove Health Bar, died Dec. 6. He was 49.

Marcos also was the owner of Pono, the yellow Labrador retriever who played the dog Vincent on the ABC series "Lost."

He opened Diamond Head Cove in 2003. It became popular for its smoothies, acai bowls and awa. The shop on Monsarrat Avenue also featured live music and was a hangout for musicians.

"Marcos introduced a lot of people to awa," Jonathan Yee, president of the Awa Development Council, said in a news release. The shop provided a place where "people could relax with friends, enjoy awa and make new friends," Yee said.

Marcos is survived by wife Ann, mother Josephine, brothers Efren Mila Farinas and Alan, sisters Jocelyn Ishikawa and Elizabeth Navarro, and 12 nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life is planned for Saturday on the lawn in front of Fort DeRussy beach in Waikiki. Friends and family are invited to meet between 8 and 8:30 a.m. to paddle out to his favorite surf spot at Threes to spread his ashes. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m.
