Honolulu’s Chef Mavro restaurant, helmed by chef-owner George Mavrothalassitis, has made the Gayot Top 40 list of the best restaurants in the United States.
It is the fifth time the restaurant has made the list and is the only Hawaii restaurant named.
“This honor is like AAA Five Diamond (awards) in that both are based on visits by trained inspectors,” said spokeswoman Donna Jung, who is also Mavrothalassitis’ wife.
“One difference is that Gayot is all about the food … as we are a chef-driven restaurant the Gayot rating is extremely important to Chef Mavro and all his culinary team of young cooks who do like to win!”
