Suspect charged in assault of woman

Police charged an 18-year-old Honolulu man on multiple sexual assault charges related to an incident last month involving an 18-year-old woman.

Dominic Avalos was charged yesterday with two counts of first-degree sexual assault, two counts of attempted sexual assault in the first degree, and eight counts of third-degree sexual assault.

The assaults allegedly took place at a Kapiolani address around 1 a.m. on Dec. 21.

Avalos was arrested Friday. His bail was set at $25,000.

Man allegedly hits wife and officer

A 22-year-old Waikiki man was arrested Friday afternoon after he allegedly assaulted a police officer and abused his wife.

Police said two patrol officers responded to a domestic argument about noon.

As they tried to diffuse the situation, the suspect punched one of the officers in the face twice, police said. Officers were able to subdue the suspect and arrest him.

Kenneth Bethea, of Lemon Road, was being held on $1,000 bail after being charged with abuse of a household member. Pending are charges of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

Hilo woman is charged in ID theft

A 45-year-old Hilo woman has been arrested and charged with 15 offenses related to identity theft.

Cynthia Ann Johnasen is charged with unauthorized possession of personal information, two counts of theft or forgery of a credit card, and four counts each of theft, ID theft and fraudulent use of a credit card. A police spokeswoman told the Hawaii Tribune-Herald that the offenses occurred between May 3 and 10 last year and the amount stolen totaled $1,107.50.

The victim, a 40-year-old Hilo woman, reported that someone was accessing her financial account at a local bank and withdrawing funds without authorization.

Bail for Johnasen was set at $159,000. She made her initial appearance Thursday in Hilo District Court.
