Two bodies found in water off Makapuu Point

A father and daughter apparently drowned at Makapuu Point this afternoon, police said.

Bodies of the man in his late 40s or early 50s and his preteen daughter were found in the water about 3:46 p.m., police said.

They were wearing swim gear, police said.

Someone at the top of the cliff called 911 after spotting two bodies in waters near some tidal pools below, Capt. Gary Lum of the Honolulu Fire Department said.

Firefighters and paramedics retrieved the bodies with help from the Honolulu Fire Department helicopter, Lum said.
