Cold front may bring rain tonight through weekend

Rain from an approaching cold front may begin falling late tonight, forecasters say.

The rain is predicted to continue tomorrow as the front moves over Oahu. But wet weather may be with us through the weekend as the front stalls near the Big Island on Saturday.

Skies today should be partly sunny. Winds are from the east and south as the front approaches. Rain ahead of the front should start falling on Kauai today and Oahu tonight. Maui County may also get isolated showers.

Tomorrow’s weather may be similar to Super Bowl Sunday, said Tom Birchard, a forecaster with the National Weather Service.

Skies will be cloudy with occasional showers. A period of steady, moderate rain is expected tomorrow night when the front moves over Oahu.

The front is expected to reach the Big Island Friday night or Saturday and may stall, forecasters said.

Moisture from the front may be blown back over Oahu and other islands, bringing scattered showers with a slight chance of thunderstorms Friday and Saturday.

The weather service says a new weather system west of the islands may bring more rain on Sunday.
