Investigation nets arrest

A 58-year-old Wahiawa man was arrested Wednesday in a sports gambling investigation.

The arrest wrapped up a months-long investigation by HPD’s Narcotics and Vice Division, said Honolulu police spokeswoman Michelle Yu.

No other details were available.

The man was arrested on suspicion of six counts of first-degree promotion of gambling, nine counts of second-degree promotion of gambling and two contempt of court counts. He was released pending investigation.

He was arrested at about 1:10 p.m. at Dillingham Boulevard and Alakawa Street, but Yu said that was not the location of the man’s operation.

Motorcyclist dies of injuries

A motorcyclist who crashed last month near Kalaheo High School died of his injuries Wednesday.

He was identified by the city Medical Examiner’s Office as Benjamin Yee, 75, of Kailua.

Police said that at about 4:40 p.m. Jan. 26, a Yamaha motorcycle rear-ended a blue Toyota Matrix driven by a man, 34, which was stopped at Mokapu Boulevard and Kapaa Quarry Road. The driver was taken to the hospital in serious condition, and traffic investigators were not called to the scene, police said. The car driver was not injured.

Yee’s death is the ninth on Oahu’s roadways this year, compared with eight at this time in 2010.

Police hunting for Puna man

Big Island police are requesting the public’s help to find a 32-year-old Puna man for questioning in connection with investigations of a recent sexual assault and a marijuana-growing operation.

Oran C. Kita is last known to have lived in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision. He is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall and 165 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, a slim build and a fair to lightly tanned complexion.

Anyone with information on Kita’s whereabouts is asked to call the Police Department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311.
