Downpour postpones Wahine softball tourney

A downpour in Manoa yesterday afternoon pushed the Hawaii softball team’s return to Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium back a bit.

The two games scheduled on opening night of the Bank of Hawaii Invitational were postponed due to rain yesterday. Weather permitting, the four-team tournament will begin today at 11 a.m. Yesterday’s games are now scheduled for Sunday, to be followed by modified bracket play.

Weber State and South Dakota State were preparing to play the opener yesterday afternoon when heavy rain began falling about 30 minutes before the scheduled 4 p.m. start. With more rain in the forecast, UH officials decided to postpone the games.

Hawaii (12-4) returned from a 12-day, 11-game road trip ranked 14th and 16th in the national polls and looking to end a three-game losing streak.

This week’s tournament begins a run of three straight home tournaments for the Rainbow Wahine.

Following is the remaining schedule for the Bank of Hawaii Invitational:

» Today: South Dakota State-St. Bonaventure, 11 a.m.; Weber State-St. Bonaventure, 1 p.m.; Hawaii-South Dakota State, 3 p.m.; Hawaii-Weber State, 5 p.m.

» Tomorrow: Weber State-South Dakota State, 10 a.m.; Hawaii-St. Bonaventure, noon; Seed 3-Seed 4, 2 p.m.; Seed 1-Seed 2, 4 p.m.
