A water main break on Royal Hawaiian Ave. just before noon flooded Royal Hawaiian Ave. as shopowners (right) tried to keep water out of their businesses.

Four Waikiki businesses along Royal Hawaiian Avenue between Kuhio Avenue and Waikolu Way are without water this afternoon after the street was closed following a break in a 12-inch water main.

Board of Water Supply crews responded to the scene after the break was reported at 11:24 a.m. at 352 Royal Hawaiian Ave.

Video taken at the scene showed a river of water flowing down Royal Hawaiian Avenue. Business owners struggled to keep the water from flowing into shops.

A Board of Water Supply spokesman said it is likely repairs will continue through the night.

Work crews are currently on the scene, working to isolate the break and clear excessive water from the roadway.

Royal Hawaiian Avenue between Kuhio Avenue and Waikolu Way is closed to traffic. Additionally, the far right, eastbound lane on Kuhio Avenue will be closed near the Royal Hawaiian Avenue intersection. These lanes will remain closed for the duration of the repair.
