Boy, 4, who fell off escalator at Massachusetts mall dies
AUBURN, Mass. >> A 4-year-old boy who fell off an escalator and onto a first-floor display case at a Massachusetts mall has died.
The Worcester district attorney’s office says Mark DiBona of Dudley died Saturday night at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester.
Officials say the boy was shopping with family and a friend Friday evening at the Auburn Mall when he fell from an escalator on the second floor of the Sears store.
Police are investigating the fall. The district attorney’s office says there are no signs of foul play.
Police told The Telegram & Gazette that Mark grabbed the escalator’s moving railing with both hands and flew off. He landed on a first-floor store display case and suffered a serious head injury.
