» The Moku o Keawe Foundation received $10,000 from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs to continue its mission of Hawaiian cultural education and to present the Fifth Annual Moku o Keawe Festival. Fifteen hula halau from Hawaii and Japan participated in the November event at the Waikoloa Beach Resort on the Big Island.

» The North Beach West Maui Benefit Fund donated $20,000 worth of new books to the Lahaina Public Library in November. The books covered topics related to Hawaii, the Pacific islands and East Asia.

» The James & Abigail Campbell Family Foundation and James Campbell Co. donated $300,000 last fall to the Hawaii Meth Project. The nonprofit prevention program aims to reduce methamphetamine use among teens and young adults through public service messages, public policy and community outreach.

» ‘Iolani School teams received four awards, including first place in robot performance, in December at the 2010 Hawaii FIRST Lego State Championship at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center.
