Shockers earn 6-2 victory over Hawaii
Josh Smith tossed seven shutout innings to lead Wichita State to a 6-2 victory over Hawaii on Thursday night.
A Les Murakami Stadium crowd of 1,304 saw the Rainbows (12-14) lose for the fifth time in six games.
Chris O’Brien went 2-for-3 with two doubles and five RBIs, clearing the bases with his second extra-base hit in the eighth to put the game out of reach.
Smith tied a career high with seven strikeouts, allowing four hits and one walk to improve to 4-1 for the season.
Matt Sisto (1-4) took the loss for Hawaii, allowing seven hits and five runs in 7 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts.
Hawaii scored twice in the ninth on RBI singles by pinch hitter Collin Bennett and Kalani Brackenridge.

Aaron Labrie, WSU’s fourth different pitcher used in the ninth, struck out Jeff Van Doornum with the bases loaded to end the game.
Brackenridge and Zack Swasey each had two hits for UH.
