Developers of a proposed mixed-use project on the site of a former drive-in have submitted notice to prepare an environmental impact statement.

The proposed commercial and residential project encompasses 14 acres in Aiea with up to 220,000 square feet of commercial, retail and office space, along with 1,500 residential units.

It also could include a 150-room hotel.

Robertson Properties Group announced yesterday there will be a May 16 meeting to gather public comments on issues that should be studied in the environmental impact statement.

The property, on what used to be the Kamehameha Drive-In, would need new zoning.

Developers say the project is designed to be "transit-ready," with elements to encourage walking to and from the planned Pearlridge rail transit station about a quarter-mile away.
