Gallery to show art by Herb Kane

Volcano, Hawaii » Artwork by the late Herb Kane will be exhibited from June 11 to July 31 at the Volcano Art Center Gallery in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Kane, a Hawaiian artist and historian, was a co-founder of the Polynesian Voyaging Society and designed the voyaging canoe Hokule‘a.

An opening reception of "Gods and Goddesses: Honoring the Art, Life and Voyage of Herb Kane" will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. June 11 at the center gallery. The reception is free although park entrance fees apply. For more call the center at 967-8222 or visit www.volcanoartcenter.org.

F-16 flight demo to highlight expo

Kailua-Kona » The first civilian Hawaii Airshow Invitational will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 28-29 at Kona International Airport on the Big Island.

The show will feature aerobatic flying; a U.S. Air Force F-16 flight demonstration with planes from Misawa Air Base, Japan; Hawaiian Airlines’ first aircraft, the Bellanca Pacemaker; and a demonstration of radio-control flying. The show also will have activities for children, food, exhibits of historic military aircraft and vehicles, and $30 airplane rides.

All-day parking is $5 per car in a lot at the southern end of the airport.
