Hawaii County police have charged a Waimea man who was arrested following a shooting that wounded a man Friday.

Evan Chong, 23, was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and first-degree reckless endangering. He was being held at the Kona police cellblock on $57,000 bail. Detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigation Section charged him Saturday afternoon.

South Kohala patrol officers responded at 3:19 a.m. Friday to a report of a shooting at a home on Alaneo Street in Waimea. While en route, officers learned that a man was at North Hawaii Community Hospital with a gunshot wound to one of his legs.

The victim remained hospitalized Sunday in stable condition, police said.
