Get informed about GMOs at panel discussion

Did you know that 75 percent of processed food consumed in the U.S. contains genetically modified organisms? These include food made from soy, corn, canola, cottonseed oil and sugar beets.

Learn more about the issues surrounding genetically modified food at a discussion with environmental and farming experts next Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Moiliili Community Center.

“Why are We Eating GMO Food: It’s Health and Environmental Consequences” will also explore how GMO food affects food sovereignty.

Panelists include Mark Fergusson, CEO of Down to Earth stores; Juanita Kawamoto Brown of the Environmental Caucus; and Hector Valenzuela, vegetable crops extension specialist with the University of Hawaii’s College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources.
