2 rescued after near drownings

A 3-year-old boy and a man believed to be in his late 50s are both in the hospital following separate near-drowning incidents Sunday.

The boy was taken to an area hospital in serious condition after he was pulled from the ocean near Pokai Bay in Waianae.

According to Emergency Medical Services, this is the third near drowning of a young child in the past week. The previous incidents involved a 3-year-old girl who was resuscitated after being pulled from a pool on King Street and a 2-year-old boy who was pulled from the ocean.

In the other incident Sunday, a man was rescued from waters near Fort DeRussy and taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

Teen boy hurt in pellet-gun shooting

Honolulu police are investigating a pellet-gun shooting on the Big Island that left a 16-year-old boy in critical condition.

The shooting occurred Saturday in Pahoa shortly after 5 p.m. The victim was transported to the Queen’s Medical Center.

No other details have been released. Hawaii County police requested that Honolulu police follow up on the investigation.

Search continues for missing hiker

Honolulu Fire Department rescue personnel are scheduled to resume their search this morning for a hiker believed to be in distress above Manoa Falls.

The air and ground search began around 1 p.m. Sunday.

HFD spokesman Capt. Robert Main said rescuers earlier heard the hiker calling for help but were unable to directly communicate with him and had not been able to determine his location. They last heard the hiker’s voice around 3:30 p.m.

The search was suspended due to darkness.

Rescuers are scheduled to resume operations at 6:30 a.m. today.

Accident hospitalizes hang-glider

A 49-year-old man was taken to an area hospital after being seriously injured in a hang-gliding accident Sunday in Mokuleia.

No other details were available.
