Karlsson takes 3-stroke lead at St. Jude Classic
Michelle Wie shot a 67 in the second round of the LPGA’s State Farm Classic, improving from a tie for 70th to a tie for 22nd.
Robert Karlsson keeps playing better and better at TPC Southwind. The Swede could be on track for his first PGA Tour title if he keeps it up.
Karlsson is focused only on his next round.
"That’s a question we’ll discuss when it happens," Karlsson said.
Karlsson shot a 5-under 65 on Friday to take a three-stroke lead after the second round of the St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tenn. He started a stroke behind first-round leader David Mathis and carded six birdies and a bogey to reach 9 under. Karlsson, who lost here a year ago in a playoff with Lee Westwood, has played his first six career rounds at the course under par with this his lowest score yet.
"It’s actually a bonus that I did well here last year," said Karlsson. "But this year is a new year, and even now most likely going to be in the lead after two days makes no difference. We’ve come halfway, and who knows. I might finish 55th. You never know."
Colt Knost (68) and Keegan Bradley (67) were tied for second. Bradley, the Byron Nelson Championship winner two weeks ago, is among a few who can earn a spot next week in the U.S. Open by winning his second tour event since the last Open.

John Merrick (69) was 5 under, and Fredrik Jacobson (65) and Harrison Frazar (65) were another stroke back. Mathis (72) is at 3 under.
Wie moves up the leader board
Michelle Wie moved up 48 places Friday when she shot a 5-under 67 in the second round of the LPGA State Farm Classic in Springfield, Ill.
Wie, a former Honolulu resident, had seven birdies and two bogeys on the day. She’s tied for 22nd place, eight strokes behind the leader, Mindy Kim, who also shot 67 and is at 13-under 131.
Top-ranked Yani Tseng (66) and Shanshan Feng (65) were tied for second.
Tway in front by 1
Bob Tway birdied the 18th hole for a 9-under 63 and a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Champions Tour’s Greater Hickory Classic in Conover, N.C.
Mike Goodes, who fired a 28 on the front nine, was a shot back along with Tommy Armour III, Joe Ozaki and Mark Wiebe.
Rock leads Italian Open
England’s Robert Rock shot a 4-under 68 to take a one-stroke lead over countryman Chris Wood and Dutchman Joost Luiten after the second round of the Italian Open in Fiano.
