Big Island police used fingerprints to identify Tuesday a male pedestrian killed June 10 in a hit-and-run crash in South Kona as Bounxou Saychantha.

The 41-year-old Saychantha, with no permanent address, had a tattoo on his right arm that resembled a dragon, police said.

Police had asked the public for help in identifying the victim.

Saychantha was struck by a Chevrolet Blazer prior to 8:13 p.m. June 10 on Hawaii Belt Road in Captain Cook.

Police opened a negligent homicide case.

Police recovered the 2001 Chevrolet Blazer June 12 that struck Saychantha, but have not yet found the driver.
