Fingerprints used to identify victim of South Kona crash

Big Island police used fingerprints to identify Tuesday a male pedestrian killed June 10 in a hit-and-run crash in South Kona as Bounxou Saychantha.

The 41-year-old Saychantha, with no permanent address, had a tattoo on his right arm that resembled a dragon, police said.

Police had asked the public for help in identifying the victim.

Saychantha was struck by a Chevrolet Blazer prior to 8:13 p.m. June 10 on Hawaii Belt Road in Captain Cook.

Police opened a negligent homicide case.

Police recovered the 2001 Chevrolet Blazer June 12 that struck Saychantha, but have not yet found the driver.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 935-3311 or CrimeStoppers at 329-8181 or 961-8300.
