Cell phone use leads to car theft arrest
An alert police officer arrested two people and recovered a stolen vehicle Friday morning after spotting the driver using a cell phone while driving in Waikiki.
The officer pulled over the 41-year-old woman, of a Kapiolani Boulevard address, for using her cell phone while driving on Hobron Lane about 10:30 a.m., police said.
After learning that the truck had been reported stolen, police called the vehicle’s owner, who said he didn’t know the woman and never gave her permission to drive his vehicle, police said.
Officers arrested the woman on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle. A 30-year-old Kalihi man was also arrested on suspicion of riding in the stolen vehicle.
