Big Island detectives are looking for a 25-year-old Kona man who allegedly shot another man during a foot chase Friday night in Kona.

The shooting happened about 6:10 p.m. in a parking lot on Kaukini Highway after the alleged shooter met with a 54-year-old man, an acquaintance.

The younger man allegedly grabbed the other man’s wallet, but couldn’t take it and fled on foot with the older man in pursuit. During the chase, the younger man turned and fired a dark pistol at the older man, hitting him in the shoulder, police said.

The shooter fled in a light colored SUV.

Police said the older man was treated and released from Kona Community Hospital.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call Detective Myra Iwamoto at 326-4646 extension 281.

Anonymous tips can also be made to Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona.
