U.S. marshals and Honolulu police are finishing a two-day operation today to capture wanted fugitives on Oahu.

The U.S. Coast Guard is also assisting in the sweep. A Coast Guard Dolphin helicopter flew over sections of Waikiki, Diamond Head and Kapahulu Tuesday morning, generating some complaints to the Federal Aviation Administration about the low-flying aircraft.

Several dozen wanted fugitives were arrested Tuesday and detained in the Honolulu Police cellblock on Beretania Street.

Federal and state law enforcement officers have held occasional mass roundups of fugitives over the past six years, beginning with an operation on Oahu and Maui in 2005 where 134 fugitives were arrested over seven days.

In 2009, 237 fugitives were rounded up, including 12 sex offenders and authorities cleared 266 warrants on Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Hawaii.
