House fire that killed two cats at Pearl City Peninsula is accidental

 

A fire that killed two cats and destroyed a house occupied by a military couple at Pearl City Peninsula today is believed to have been accidental and originating from the living room  of the three-bedroom house.

The 7:30 a.m. fire caused about $50,000 to the Lehua Street structure and its contents, said Capt. Terry Seelig, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman. The exact cause is unknown but appears to be have been electrical in nature because the blaze began in the vicinity of a power strip that had cords plugged to various electrical appliances including a television, electronic game box and lamps, Seelig said.

A woman, who was asleep when the fire began, escaped injury and ran back to get retrieve several of her animals, including two dogs and several furry creatures. Seelig said people should not run back into a building on fire at any time.The woman’s husband was not home at the time, Seelig said.
