Workshop focuses on weddings

The Wedding Cafe is reintroducing its popular Bridal Workshop Series, with sessions taking place 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays beginning next week in the Ward Conference Rooms (above store), unless otherwise noted.

All but two of the sessions are free. RSVP for each event at www.theweddingcafe.net or call 591-1005. The list of vendors is also posted at the website.

Next week’s first session, titled “The Beautiful Bride,” covers hair, makeup and fashion trends. Also scheduled:

» Aug. 3: “The Perfect Wedding Reception,” with representatives from major hotels detailing their amenities and bridal services.

» Aug. 10: “Budget, Planning and Wedding Timeline,” a panel of experts will discuss the realities that make the fantasy possible.

» Aug. 17: Gown sale at the Bridal Boutique, also with a showcase of jewelry selections from Mellow Antiques and menswear from Phil’s Tux.

» Aug. 24: “Floral, Decor and Design Showcase,” with 11 vendors demonstrating how to stage the perfect setting.

» Aug. 31: “Picture Perfect Photography Showcase,” with tips from 17 photographers.

» Sept. 7: “It’s All About the Details,” addressing invitations, favors and little extravagances that will make your wedding extra special.

» Sept. 14: “Videography Showcase,” with nine video companies sharing their expertise.

» Sept. 21: “Wedding Music and Entertainment,” with Ben & Malia.

» Sept. 28: “Cake and Catering Trends.” Sample pastry and cuisine from 10 cake and food vendors; cost is $15 per person.

» Oct. 5: Groom’s workshop in the Kakaako Conference Room will guide prospective husbands through their roles on the big day.

» Oct. 12: Time line workshop: The cost is $15 per person or $25 per couple.

Hotel opens doors to brides, grooms

While on the subject of matrimony, the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa invites couples looking for bridal ideas and options to visit the resort from noon to 3 p.m. Aug. 7 for a Bridal Gala.

Couples will be able to view the hotel’s ballrooms and guest rooms, pick up tips from wedding professionals and sample food and wedding cakes.

Boutique hosts shopping and fun fare

Cupcake boutique is presenting a pop-up shopping and family event from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Waikiki Edition hotel, 1775 Ala Moana Blvd.

In addition to the shop’s usual selection of children’s and infant wear, accessories, jewelry and gift items, 15 other local vendors will offer fashion and gift items.

Activities include face painting, balloons, glitter tattoos, arts and crafts, screening of the animated films “Ponyo” at noon and “Kung Fu Panda” at 2 p.m., and pupu and drinks. The first 150 people will receive a Cupcake cotton tote bag and Cupcake Pops from Bliss Cake Pops.

Admission is $8 for adults and kids 6 years and older; children age 5 and younger will be admitted free.

Reservation-only events include hourly mother-and-daughter tea times at $20 per person and silhouette paper cutouts by artist Karl Johnson for $28. The tea time will start off with an etiquette class presented by the Art of Charm School. Girls will be presented with a buffet of princess goodies. Email info@cupcake-boutique.com.

Lily Lotus moves boutique to Kailua

Lily Lotus Inc. has opened its new store in the heart of Kailua.

The company closed its original Kaimuki boutique in April in favor of a spot on the Windward side, at 609 Kailua Road, Suite 102, next to Cold Stone Creamery.

The new shop features Lily Lotus’ signature clothing line and other lifestyle and active wear collections, jewelry, accessories and more.

“Kailua Town is a wonderful community and we’re really excited to be a part of their new redevelopment project,” said owner and founder Momi Chee in a news release. “Kailua is a very active and the community seems to promote an interest in wellness and healthy living. Since we specialize in yoga and active lifestyles it seems like a perfect fit.”

Lily Lotus clothing is also sold in yoga studios, hotel resorts, luxury spas and select boutiques around the world.

‘The Wizard of Oz’ opens on 2 stages

Love “The Wizard of Oz”? You’re in luck: Productions of this children’s stage show open in two locations today.

At Roosevelt High School Auditorium in Makiki, Ohana Arts presents "The Wizard of Oz" at 7 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday, with a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. Performers include 57 students ages 8 to 18 who are participating in the Ohana Arts Summer Musical Theater Workshop.

Waterfront park to host music fest

Hawaii favorites Pepper and Sublime with Rome will return to the islands for the inaugural Point Panic Music Festival on Nov. 19 at Kakaako Waterfront Park and a Nov. 20 performance at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. Tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. Friday. The new event is a collaborative effort by local promoter BAMP Project and California-based Guerilla Union.

Sublime’s Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson with lead man Rome Ramirez are returning with a new album, “Yours Truly,” to promote. Pepper is on the road with the annual Vans Warped Tour.

Supporting acts include the Hawaii band Iration and the Dub Trio from Brooklyn, N.Y.

Tickets — $45 for each show, with $120 VIP section tickets available for the Oahu date — will be available at groovetickets.com and bampproject.com; Local Motion stores; Navy, Hickam and Marine Corps ITT offices; Coast Guard MWR; and the University of Hawaii-Manoa Campus Center.
