The remains of Fernanda, the former tropical storm that dissipated late last week, was about 300 miles southeast of Hilo and expected to bring some rain to Hawaii island today, forecasters said,

“Locally heavy rainfall is possible on the Big Island as abundant moisture from former tropical cyclone Fernanda continues to ride in on the trades,” forecasters with the National Weather Service in Honolulu said this morning. Elsewhere in the state, “the showers carried by the trades will mainly affect windward and mauka areas, although isolated showers will be carried over to the leeward sides of the smaller islands.”

The forecast for Honolulu calls for isolated showers today through Tuesday with light trade winds predicted for much of the week, and high temperatures of 89 or 90 degrees expected through Saturday.

Fernanda entered the Central Pacific Thursday as a strong tropical storm but quickly fell apart over cooler waters. Still, what remains of the system has the potential to dump heavy rain on Hawaii island today, the weather service said.
