Man held for allegedly passing counterfeit checks

A man was arrested Sunday for allegedly offering two counterfeit checks for the purchase of a Waikiki business.

A 40-year-old man contacted the owners by phone after they advertised their business on Craigslist, police said.

The owners met him and showed him the business. He tried to pass two counterfeit checks 1 p.m. Sunday to make the purchase, police said.

When the man returned to complete the deal, officers arrested him on suspicion of first-degree theft and second-degree forgery.
