Workers search for ordnance at beach
WAIMEA, HAWAII >> Workers are trying to locate possible unexploded ordnance left over from World War II at Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began Thursday scanning for ordnance in the cabin area and along the beach. The state Department of Land and Natural Resources says the beach is not closed, but that the public is asked to keep 200 feet from technicians.
If any ordnance is detected, DLNR officers will evacuate the park while disposal takes place.
Council wants e-waste recycling on neighbor islands
HILO >> The Hawaii County Council wants places on the neighbor islands for dropping off electronic waste for recycling.
West Hawaii Today reports council members want the state Legislature to come up with a method that doesn’t require residents to mail items such as old televisions and computers to Honolulu.

As an interim solution, the county plans to create e-waste drop-off points at transfer stations next month, to be subsidized by tax dollars. The Council passed a resolution Thursday supporting a bill, which would require manufacturers to offer drop-off points on neighbor islands.
