Kauai County lifeguards rescued a fisherman in waters off Anini Beach after his kayak started sinking. The 41-year-old Kapaa man was unharmed, the county said.
The man had been fishing in the Anini channel with a friend, a 40-year-old Kapaa man, and were about 300 yards from shore when their kayak began taking on water about 12:55 p.m. Friday.
The younger man swam to shore to seek help, while the older man stayed with the kayak.
Lifeguards from the Hanalei tower responded on a jet ski and brought the man safely to shore. They then retrieved the kayak.
The man declined medical treatment and was released at the scene.
