The state Department of Land and Natural Resources will close the Diamond Head summit trail Tuesday from noon to 6 p.m., as part of ongoing trail work. The trail will be reopened the following day at 6 a.m. 

The trail will be closed while a helicopter airlifts materials for future renovations of the ledge area outside of the Fire Control Station. 

Work on the narrow ledge area where hikers exit the Fire Control Station will begin as part of the new "loop" and ledge improvement project for the summit trail. 

During upcoming work on the ledge area, hikers will be temporarily diverted to the new trail section to reach the summit.
