Victim identified in Makapuu drowning
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office on Monday identified a 68-year-old woman who was found Sunday floating in the ocean at Makapuu as Evelyn Austin of Kailua.
A person on the Makapuu Lighthouse trail reported seeing a woman floating in the ocean at 9:48 a.m. near the Makapuu tide pools.
Fire and Ocean Safety personnel rushed to the scene. Ocean Safety personnel pulled the woman from the water and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
She was taken by fire helicopter to Sandy Beach where she was turned over to Emergency Medical Services personnel. She was transported by ambulance to Straub Clinic & Hospital, where she died.
The cause of death was not available.
