University of Hawaii football coach Greg McMackin said the open date on the schedule this week comes “at a good time” for the Warriors.

UH, which beat Louisiana Tech 44-26 Saturday, doesn’t play until a week from Friday, an Oct. 14 game at San Jose State on ESPN.

“It was a physical game and we’ve got some guys hurt in the ballgame,” McMackin said on the Western Athletic Conference coaches teleconference today. “And we’ve got some other players that are hurt, (so) it is a really good time for us (to have an open date).”

McMackin said “we going to be able to work with some of our younger players and I think it is a good time.”
