Body recovered off Kauai, while search continues for another tourist
Fire rescue personnel recovered the body of a 28-year-old Canadian visitor in waters off Polihale Beach on Kauai about 7 a.m. today. He was identified as Steve Kim of Ontario, Canada. Meanwhile, rescue crews resumed searching this morning for a missing 66-year-old California man near Kiahuna Plantation in Poipu.

Police said Kim was swimming with his brother in waist-deep breakers at Polihale Beach late Tuesday. After a few minutes passed, Kim’s brother lost sight of him, Kauai Fire Chief Robert Westerman said in a news release. A surfer searched for Kim without success.
Fire rescue personnel responded at 6:25 p.m. A Coast Guard helicopter assisted in the search until 9 p.m.
Fire and Coast Guard personel found Kim’s body this morning about 30 yards off Polihale Beach minutes after they resumed the search.
Another search is continuing for a missing 66-year-old swimmer near Poipu.

Charles Slezak, a visitor from Canoga Park, Calif., was last seen about 3:30 p.m. Monday.
Slezak is described as 6 feet tall with medium build. He was last seen wearing black and white shorts, a blue collared shirt and carrying pink swim fins.
A Coast Guard air crew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Barbers Point is also assisting in the search. The Coast Guard cutter Galveston Island, a 110-foot patrol boat, continued the rescue effort overnight.
