A 17-year-old girl was taken to the hospital with head injuries just before noon today after falling off her skateboard in Kailua.

Paramedics responded to the emergency call on Akiohala Street in Kailua at 11:55 a.m., a spokeswoman for the city Department of Emergency Services said.

There have been several skating accidents this week.

On Tuesday, a 13-year-old boy was hospitalized after falling while skating in Hauula. Bystanders said the boy was skating down a hill on Waikulama Street with a helmet on and hit his head after falling backward. He tried to get up but fell back again. He was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition.

An 11-year-old Salt Lake boy suffered head and leg injuries after hitting a Handi-Van while riding a skateboard down a hill on Likini Street in Salt Lake on Oct. 3

In May, Hawaii Pacific University basketball player Kameron Steinhoff was killed riding his skateboard down a large hill near his home in Kaneohe. He fell and hit his head. He wasn’t wearing a helmet and never regained consciousness.

Steinhoff led his Punahou team to the state championship in 2008.
