Honolulu mayor Peter Carlisle is in South Korea to attend the Incheon Sister and Friendly Cities Summit.

Carlisle’s office said the mayor was invited to the summit to talk about cooperation on economic development and business opportunities in Honolulu. He’ll also promote travel between Korea and Hawaii.

The mayor left Honolulu on Tuesday. City managing director Doug Chin will serve as mayor until Carlisle returns on Sunday.

Carlisle was scheduled to spend this morning touring a hospital and then attending sessions at the summit. Friday’s schedule includes a tour of the city and the Incheon Citizens’ Day Ceremony.

The city of Incheon is picking up the tab for the mayor’s visit.
