Despite a season-ending knee injury, former Leilehua High School quarterback Andrew Manley is likely to travel home for New Mexico State’s game with Hawaii Saturday as an honorary captain for the Aggies.

“I’m going to probably bring him on the trip,” NMSU head coach DeWayne Walker said. “I’m thinking about making him an honorary captain. He was such a big piece of our football team and our offense.”

Walker said, “He’s our, he watches tape. He’s a football guy.  So, he’s still around the program and he’s still cheering our guys on so we’re going to try and reward him.” 

Manley, a sophomore, was the Aggies starting quarterback for the upset of Minnesota but suffered a season-ending knee injury on the final play of NMSU’s game with Texas-El Paso Sept. 17th. 

Walker said he expects Manley to be granted a medical redshirt year. “It is he right thing to do for him. “We’re happy that he will probably be granted that. We’re looking forward to getting him back healthy (for 2012).”
